Small Town Waltz

SMALL TOWN WALTZ
She grew up in a small town
near the interstate
rubber bands and a shoe box
one day she'd escape
raised up on rooftops
watchin' trucks roll on
Six hundred dollars
and her grandpa's watch
saved for leavin' home
leavin' home
leaving home
He was born on the highway
in the back of a chevrolet
cause on the way to the hospital
his momma couldn't wait
It was then where he belonged
so he worked there all his life
Barely got the chance
to raise his kids
or hold his pretty wife
comin' home
coming home
Late in the evening
strangers on the road
the radio is trying to let us know
the way through the darkness
don't feel so alone
one's carried out
one's carried home
Just off an exit
around a curve with a steep decline
laid a car on it's rooftop
they were first to pass by
turned to flames, dialed 911
but it was too damn late
held their heads
tried to save a life
you could hear the angels sing
comin' home
comin home
Late in the evening
strangers on the road
the radio is trying to let us know
way through the darkness
don't feel so alone
one's carried out
one's carried home

Nickel & a diamond

NICKEL & A DIAMOND
Jason was the son
of a loaded gun
forced into the throat of a city
workin with his hands
welcomed 6AM
Nickel and a diamond a living
If you run
You won't get very far
Every good idea is bought
and they don't need a reason
then they won't need you anymore
Kristi was a saint
brought up by the same
making plans for after their wedding
move into a house
where interest rates we're down
But safe enough to bring up some grand kids

ALONELY
I took every pill
I swallowed every one
I can't quite remember
If we had some fun
I'm in a mood
I don't know what to do
I'd rather be alone
than be lonely with you
I had a few bottles
I slammed a couple more
When i came to
I woke up on the floor
I changed my view
fixed my attitude
I'd rather be alone
than be lonely with you
let down, broke n
ain't it a cryin shame
dowtown, hellbound
since i left you, you got no one to blame
We rolled to a joint
Then burned another down
went through every stop sign
in this whole damn town
I played the blues
don't know what to do
I'd rather be alone
I'd rather be alone
I'd rather be alone
than be lonely with you

Love remains

LOVE REMAINS
All the times
I held you close
Are the times that
Count the most
All the time
We could have spent
Cashing egos
To pay the rent
We laugh like children
In the falling rain
You know I don't want to
Miss you again
Best Defenses
Heart's restrained
Through it all
...Love remains
When two hearts
Beat like drums
In perfect union
Sound like one

Now here

NOW HERE
When you're down on your luck
and you feel like you're stuck
and them worries they follow you around
well the train left the station
but has no destination
until you say so
If you're broke and you're leaning
with your back to the wall
and u feel like there's no where you can turn
just look up, there's no crowd
just an easy way out
where the light of the lord
shines down
While you're here and not gone
make the best of your life
and make sure to find someone you can trust
speak the truth, speak your mind
and you'll feel good
when it's time to leave it all
behind
